Methodist Church Social.

A COMPLIMENTARY social was given to Mr and Mrs H. J. Hirst in the Methodist School Ri o n on Friday evening, who are leaving for Mangonui. After vocal and instrumental items had been rendered by Mrs Gibson, Misses Stanley, Bridson, Syme and Messrs Sherb ck (3), the Rev. J. Dukes, on bt hf If cf th * congregation, presented Mr Hirst with a pocket book as an expression of the esteem in which he was held, and regretted that he was about to sever bis connection as a church worker, he was glad, however, that the change was a j romotion. Messrs Sherlock, Hubbard, and Hetherington spoke in similar terms and Mr Hirst suitably responded. After light refreshments had been handed round the company sang “ God be with you, etc.,” and the Benediction closed the proceedings.
