Presentation at Matamata.

MR AND MRS O'CONNELL FAREWELLED. A pleasing and yet at the same time regrettable gathering, took place at Matamata the otter evening in the Presbyterian church, when Mr and Mrs H. O’Connell were farewelled and presented with tokens of esteem and regard in which they were held. While being pleased to learn of Mr O Connell’s promotion, those present regretted his early departure from the district The Rev Peat spoke of the excellent work which Mr O’Connell had done as one of the members of the first Church Committee, also as secretary for the choir. Mr O’Connell was instrumental in c illeiting the m ney for securing the Church organ and did yeoman service as Secretary tn tho Gentlemen’s Guild. Mr Me Caw and Revs. Mackie and Peat also spoke in glowing terms of the manner in which both Me and Mrs O’Connell had worked for the good of the Church. Mr Me Caw, on behalf of Mr and Mr- 1 O’Connell’s numerous friends, presented them with a handsome set of cut glass pickle jars and a set of carvers. Mr O’Connell suitably acknowledged the trift. ° Several of the Temperance people also expressed their regret at Mr O’Connell’s departure, just on the eve of the election as he had proved himself a hard worker for the cause in Te Aroha at the last general election.
