Waiorongomai.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
—Mining—
There are indications that things in general and gold mining in particular, are about to move in this locality. We have frequent visits from mining men of all descriptions; wild-cat men, I am thankful to say, are conspicuous by their absence. Most of those at present at work on the hill are practical men and understand their business, and they are putting both time and money in their respective holdings.
—School Committee —
The Waiorongomai School Commit cee met the other eveuing, when there were present: —Messrs Hill (chairman), Reynolds, Chinnery, and Brunton. Minutes of the last meeting were confirmed, and a number of accounts passed for payment. Mr Dawson was elected to fill the vacancy on the Committee, caused through the death of Mr Holt. It was resolved to ask the Board of Education for a special grant to clear the school ground of tree branches, etc. The new hotel is proving a boon to the travelling public, and Mr Brunton is proving a capable host, and conducts the house in first-class stylo. %
