The Coming Fleet

Yesterday His Worship the Mayor (Mr R. L. Somers) received the following telegram from the Premier :—“ In connection with the visit of the American Fleet, I shall be glad to know if your city is willing to contribute a flag or banner for exhibition in Auckland during the week the Fleet is there ; the banner to bear the words “Welcome From” with the mime of town contributing it. The idea is to show that a cordial welcome from every part of New Zealand is extondod to the visitors. I shall be pleased to hear from you as early as possible, whether you can see your waj clear to fall in with the proposal. Kindly reply collect. I am telegraphing all cities throughout Dominion to same effect. J. G. Waiid,” —The Town Clerk replied this morning stating that the matter would be brought before the Council at an early date.
