It is hard to understand the reason for tl ie Tourist Department leaving the front fence of the Domain in its present condition. It is close on six months s’.ncc a chain or so of picket fence was blown down, and from that day to the p -esent nothing has been done towards replacing the fence, and the unsightly gap remains month after month. Should a few head of cattle or half-a-dozen h >rses wander in the grounds some dark night, and spend their time prancing about the flower beds, or on the bowling green, perhaps the Department will move m the matter and fix the fence up. A somewhat sudden death took place a’ Waihou on Thursday evening last, Mrs Leith, mother of Mrs Hugh Ross, a yed 83 years, passed over to the great majority. The deceased had been in her usual state of good health of late, and on Wednesday afternoon witnessed the Waihou-Te Aroha hockey match. Mrs Leith retired to bed as usual on Thursdey, and during the evening awoke thoese in the adjoining room by tapping on the wall. On going into the room they found the old lady almost gone. Acute bronchitis, with heart failure was the immediate cause of death. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
