Waihi Co-operative Society.

A NEW VENTURE. On Saturday evening a meeting of the public and shareholders of the late Waihi Co-operative Society was held at the Miners’ Union Hall, at Waihi, for the purpose of taking steps to form a new Co-operative Society. Mr John Carless occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks outlined the purpose of the meeting, and dwelt oa the advantages to workers from the existence of Co-operative Societies. A resolution to form a new Society was, carried unanimously, and a provisional committee of thirteen was appointed. Mr Carless was elected chairman and Mr John Cameron secretary. Failing arrangements to secure the occupancy of their present premises, it was decided to immediately arrange for a suitable building, in order to enable the Society to continue an uninterrupted business. If neeessary, the Society will erect a new -bakehouse.
