New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report. Horses : On Friday, at the Durham yards, horses were yarded in average numbers. Prices ruled the ame as the previous week. Draught horses ■old at from £24 10s to £37 15s; melium, C2O 5s to £32 ; light harness horses, £5 6s to Cl2 ; sulky, £6 10s ; dogcart, £lB. Northern sales: On Wednesday, April 17th, at Arapohue, owing to the very wet weather, earcely an average number were yarded. .YU sold, with the exception of one pen of dry cows. At Maungaturoto on Friday, April 13th, an average number were yarded, which met a goed sale, almost everything being sold under the hammes. At Kaiwaka, on Saturday, April 20th, there was a small muster. At Wellsford, on Monday, April 22nd, an increased number was yarded. At Warkworth on Wednesday, April 24tli, we had an average yarding, and, with very few exceptions, the yards were cleared under the hammer. We quote for these sales : Grown steers, £4 1 >s to £6 2s 6d ; two to three and a-half year old steers, £2 5s to £4 16s ; yearlings to 18months old, £1 11s to £2 15s 6d ; empty cows, £1 15s to £2 10s ; dairy cows, £3 5s to 05 2s 6d ; heifers, £2 8s to £3 12s ; calves, Os 6d to £1 Bs. The market for young stock showed a firmer tone than the previous month.

Cattle : At the Newmarket yards on Tuesday cattle of all descriptions were yarded in full numbers and sold at late values. Dairy cows sold at from £3 10s to £7 os ; empty cows, 15s to £2 14s ; cattle, lGs to £1 7s. Fat cattle were penned in average numbers, most of the cattle being light weights. Bidding was scarcely as brisk as on Tuesday, although quotations a e the same. Ox beef cold to 21s per 1001 b ; cow, 17s tq 19s. Steers sold at from £6 10s to £lO 12s Gd; cows, £4 to £? ss. Many of the fat cattle were prime quality. Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well tilled on Tuesday and sold at late rates, wethers selling at from 18s 9d to £1 3s 9d, ewes 14s 6d to 19s 9d, hoggets 10s to 18s. Pigs : Porkers brought from 17s 6d to £1 1 8s; weaners, 6s to 10s 6d ; baconevs, £2 to £2 12s.

We quote— Extra stout ox, 71d to 8d ; stout do. 6sd to 7d; medium do., Gd to Gjjd ; light, sid to ojd ; cow,.best lines, sjd to Gd, good old to ,j|d ; stags’, 3ld to 4|d ; kips to sfd ; calfskins, Gjd to 6fd ; damaged hides, 4d to sd.

Sheepskins : Market firm. Best butchers’ pelts, 4s 3d to 4s 8d; medium, 3s 3d to 4s small, 2s Gd to 2s 9d, Tallow: Market easier. Best mixed, up

to 26s 9d; good, 23s to 24s Gd; inferior, 20s to 21s 3d ; rough fat, lfd per lb. Horsehair, Is 6d to Is 7|d per lb. Bones, £5. Cowtails, Is 8d per dozen. * Maize : Local is firm at 3s 4d ex store. Oats are in good demand at 3s lid ex store.

Wheat: Prime samples are finding ready sale at 3s 9d.

Chaff is firm at £5 5s for compressed fodder and prime samples of local. Lower grades are slow of sale.

Butter : Prime separator is only realising 3d. Milling quality is in poor demand at 7jd Cheese : Prime factory would sell freely at Gjd, hut is slow of sale at G^d. Fungus is wanted at 6d. Gum is finding ready sale, good qualities advancing in value.
