Waihou Stock Sale.

Messrs McNicol and Co. held their usual monthly sale at the AVaihou stock yards yesterday. The pens were well filled with dairy and store cattle, but bidding was somewhat slow in these lines. Last year calves were not in much demand.

The sale was preceded by a parade of stallions, the following being on the ground : 1. Mr E. Marshall’s roadster stallion, “ Merry Boy,” by Merry Legs— Barry. Is a grand horse, and had many admirers. 2. Mr Einlay’s black roadster stallion, “ Wamgal,” by Hukatere Sarah. General opinion voted him to be a fine horse and an acquisition to the district. 3. Mr E. Marshall's heavy draught 3-year old, “Gallant Ben,” by Benmore —Sylvia. Much admiied, and generally conceded to be a fine animal. 4. Mr E. Rowe’s clydesdale, “Highland Wille,” by Clydesdale Willie —Elash. Well known in the district, and with good record. 5. Mr N. A. Larney’s, “ Colonel Gordon,” by General Gordon—Blossom. Bred by N.Z. Land Association: A noble animal with an extremely good record, and undoubtedly much favoured in the district. 6. Mr S. B. Grant’s, “ Royal Tai,” by Salisbury’s Pride. Dam, Boast out of Brag. A fine horse, descended from the most fashionable blood imported in the last thirty years. The following are the chief prices realised for cattle Fat cows, £8 17s 6d to £5 3s; empty cows, 35s to 60s, young, £2 7s; young cows 665; store cows empty 28s to 60s ; fat bullocks 109 s; fresh stores Ills; steers, 15 to 18 months, 51s to 545, 2 years 48s to 725, 2|- years 58s to 775, 3 years 101 s, do iat 1255; heifers, 2 years 46s to 545, 3 years (fresh) 65s to 83s; calves (last year) 23s 6d to 335. Dairy cattle. —Good cows £2 10s to £8 i7s 6d; heifers (2£ to 3 years) £6 17s 6d to £7 ss, young £8 7s 6d, good £4 to £7 17s 6d. A fine lot of breeding ewes with lambs, fetched 225. Horses —A 3-ye;ir old cliesnut gelding by Merryboy fetched £ll.
