SiMjionds, married, aged 45, died last night in a padded cell at Mt Eden goal, He was remanded on a charge of drunken ess, and suddenly became violent, throwing utensils about. The doctors were summonsed and found him in a state of compleie collapse, Artifical respiration was tried without avail. JEWELLERY ROBBERY. Dunedin This day. Burglars entered the bouse of Jeane Porter, widow, in her absence, on Tuesday afternoon and stole ove £SO worth of jewellery. ANOTHER SAFE DYNAMITED. £l9 STOLEN. Christchurch'. This day. Early this morning the railway station safe at Kaiapoi was dynamited aud £l9 s'olen. An explosmc was heard about 2a.m. and also the noise of a vehicle driven through the town but no alarm was given.
A BOY KILLED. Auckland, This Dnv. A bov aged 15, William Burnanl, son of Walter Burnand, a resident of Greenlane, was killed while ascending in a goods elevator at the‘‘herald” printing works, the use of which is prohibited. The boy’s head was caught between the cross beam and the elevator. His was broken. Death was instantaneous.
MASONIC. Thames, This Day. The Thames Masonic fraternity hus received word that the Grand Lodges of England. Scotland, and Ireland have agreed not to recognise Grand Lodges to be formed in any colony or territory whore they have equal jurisdiction unless two thirds of the Lodges in the district adhere to the nmv body.
