The Rev Joseph Campbell conducted both morning and evening services at St Mark’s on Sunday. The result of. Mr Strange’s op:rations.last year was of a most satisfactory nature, and those that entrusted their work to him speak in high terms of his machines; The work of sanding the Great South Road; is being gone on with by the contractors, Messrs Young. and Batt. This road, we may mention, is the only two ;chain thoroughfare in the district, and extends from Matamatato Lower Waitoa. Among those who announce themselves as candidates for the election of a Licensing Committee for the Bay of Plenty Electoral District,, is Mr G, Arnold Ward well-known throughout’ the Tauranga County and also to many hero as an architect,, engineer and journalist. As Mayor of Tauranga Mr Ward has just piloted that Borough through one of the most troublous financial years it has ever seen, doing so in a manner alike creditable to his administrative abilities and beneficial to the burgesses. We are sure the electorsof thisdistrictmay confidently depend'that this gentleman will carefully study their interests and faithfully carry out his duties, if elected. The contractor for erecting the bridge across the Waihou at Shaftesbury, is making good headway with the job, and in a few days the last pile will have been driven. The earthwork approaches will take several weeks to finish. The settlers in the neighborhood are sighing, for the opening day. Next Friday, the scholars attending the Netherton public school, visit Te Aroba. It is expected about a hundred, including parents and friends, will arrive. The Hot Springs Domain Board are granting the usual concessions. The Bishop of Auckland, recognising that the Ohinemuri district was too wide for any minister to successfully manage, recently authorised a division to be made. As a consequence the Rev W H Wilson now takes Paeroa and Karangahake, and the- Rev Mr Eyken, of Australia, has been appointed incumbent of St. John’s Church, Waihi.
