(From own Correspondent.) WAR AGAINST RATS ; Wellington, Yesterday. The Government las decided to establish depots at all the main cemtrals of the colony for free distribution of phoepherous and other poisons for ■the war of extermination against, rats. SERIOUS CHARGE Napier, Yesterday i A ease involving a. charge of attempted murder is reported from Oliau, Hastings.. Ropata, a native, it is alleged,, assaulted his. wife Ariti Teni (from whom he had’ been separated some time owing to a quarrell), with, an, axe,, inflicting severe wounds on the arms and back of the head. Severed natives interfered’ and secured Ropata, who was handed over to the police. The injured woman was removed to the hospital. Her depositions will he .taken, to-day., ; DETERMINED SUICIDE Wellington, March 12. A man named Thomas Stone, a laboror, residing in. Greytown North, committed suicide this morning hanging himself to a tree with a wire clothes line. He leaves a widow and three childiem.
