HOUSE BURNED DOWN.
Between 9 and 10 o'clock on Satur d«y morning last, Mr Win.. Hetherington'A house and contents,, situated on the Paeroa-Te Aroha road, were totally destroyed by fire* Mr Hetherington was absent from, home at the time the- fire took places Mirs Hetherington,. who. was a short distance off, attending to certain matters connected 1 with the farm, noticed smoke issuing from the roof of the dwelling, but, arrived too late to save any of the contents,, every stick of furniture, clothiug. several pounds in money, and other valuables, wer© reduced to ashes. By this fire Mr Hetherington is a heavy loser, as the furniture- was only insured for £SO in th.e Standard, the house was also covered by a similar amount. Shortly after the fire broke out, Mr Hetherington,. who observed the smoke from where he was working, some miles away, arrived on the scene, t but could do nothing but watch the destruction of his property.. The house was a four-roomed’ one.. As luck would have if,. Mrs Hetherihgton had her -children with her, otherwise the. result might have been of a more-serious nature. A number of natives from the Pah, .which adjoims the property, rendered any assistance in their power..
