Yesterday, while Mr Win. Reid was taking the preliminary steps towards breaking a horse into harness, the animal began to plunge, and Mr Reid, who had ho'd of it by the head; was thr«wn three or four times to the ground, one of the fingers of his left hand-became entangled 7 in the rains and was crushed badly. Johnson’s ironmongery establishment, left Te Aroha by train yesterday morning for Reef ton, where he has secured' a lucerative appointment in Messrs Forsyth’s, Master and Co. A number of his friends and well-wishers were present at the station to bid- him good bye; Up to kite last night no trace whatever could be found of the girl, Daisy Rielly, who mysteriously disappeared from St Mark’s Vicarage over a week ago. It seems strange, in a country like this, that a person of mature years can' leave-our midst, without some knowledge of her whereabouts being brought to light. Fears are entertained as to whether or nothe girl has met with some mishap.
Numerous electors in the Ohinemuri Electoral District have received notices from the Registrar- of Electors to the effect that their 'names have been struck off the electoral roll for the district, in consequence of their not having voted at the general election, held in December last. In most cases the receipients of these notices recorded their votes at the last election, and are consequently at a loss to understand why they are struck off the roll. There is evidently a screw loose somewhere;-
The army estimates provide for 430,000 men and am expenditure of £6 1 ! ,499;400. At the sale of privileges in connection with the Ohinemuri J.C. meeting on Thursday, the gates brought L 136 (being bought by Mr Dalston, secretary of the club) and the publican’s booth LllO (Mr W. S. Montgomery).-
