Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

A meeting of the committee of this Society was held in the Domain office, on Saturday night, when there were present Messrs Bowler (2), Pilling, Edwards, Hill, Marshall, Hetherington, Strange, Brown, Bossons, Lavery,. Hanks, Hirst, Stanley, and Hinton. Mr A. Bowler, one of the vice-presi-dents, occupied the chair. The secretary having submitted a rough statement of accounts in connection with the recent'show, it was decided to pay the prize money in full, and the treasurer was instructed to pay same from this date. The distribution of special prizes Was left in the hands of secretary and treasurer. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr John Hanks, who had donated the cash prize won by him in the driving competition to the funds of the Society. A letter was read fiom Mr 0. Johnson, Otorohanga, bringing under the Society's notice the advantages resulting from lime being put on tne land, and stated that it. accordance with a concession made by the Government'this could be supplied freight free at 18s per tou either in bulk or in bags. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the Society in Waihou, ou the evening of 30th March, and that the annual report aud balance-sheet be printed, and copies sent to members of the Society. - Messrs A. Bowler, Heiherington, Edwards, Strange, Hanks, B.*ssons, Boss, and Hill were appointed a subcommittee to prepare the report, which will be submitted to the general committee at a meeting to be held atWaihou next sale day (2nd March), at 1.1 o’clock am.

Mr. Hinton suggested that the report should convey au intimation that more encouragement should be given to the

dairy industry, in the way of making more classes of dairy cows, and giving better prizes.’ . In this connection Mr Pilling thought that, as regards the butter-fat test, the milking of the cows should be done, at home, in presence of . some one appointed by the committee, as the driving of the cows to the show had frequently an injurious effect on the animal, and so prevented it showing to the best advantage. Both these matters will be dealt

with in the report. It was decided to take up all. the posts from the show ground, ands'ack them till next year in Mr Lavery’s yard, that gentleman having kindly granted the Society permission to do so. The Jockey Club were granted the use of the Society’s hurdles.
