A well-attended meeting was held in the Town Hall last evening. His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Gallagher) was in the chair, and explained that the meeting was called in order to dis cuss the best means of raising money for the Patriotic War Pund. After reading the advertisement conveniug the meeting, the Chairman called on some gentleman to make a proposition. Mr Mills moved the following resolution, That this meeting appoint a committee to raise funds for the Patriotic War Fund, either by public subscription, concerts, or any other means that they think proper. Mr Salmon wished to know whether it was intended that the money so raided should go to the general war fund, or be used as a fund for the benefit of those men who were wounded belonging to the New Zealand Contingent. Mr T. C. Bell thought that it was only right that there should be an understanding as to how the money was 10 be exp nded before subscriptions were asked f >r.

After a good deal of discussion, the mover added the following to the resolution : That a public meeting of subscribers be called to decide bow the funds shall be abutted. The seconder of the former resolution agreed to this aod it was unanimously carried. Mr Mills proposed that the following gentlemen be a committee :—His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Gallagher), Messrs Hill, Hirst, Pavifet, Gilchrist, and the mover.
