Great Fire in Hamilton .

FIFTEEN BUSINESS PLACES DESTROYED. HAMILTON HOTEL JUTTED. ESTIMATED LOSS £12,000. On Saturday night a fire broke out in Hamilton, originating in Mr Scott’s fancy goods shop. The fire spread rapidly and Messrs Harker, Going and Davey’s premises were destroyed in turn. The * Times ’ building was saved after a hard fight. The fire spread across the street and Gwynne’s Hotel and a number of houses were destroyed. It is described as haying been the most disastrous fire that has ever taken place in Hamilton. Sandes’ chemist shop was saved. In all 15 places of business have been destroyed, namely:—-mott's fancy goods shop, supposed to be insured for £400; Horne’s building and stock, insured for £BSO in the National, furniture insured for £l5O iu the New Zealand ; Harker, jeweller, insurance £4OO on the building in the Royal, stock uninsured; Going, the furniture, £l5O on the stock itTthe Royal ; Davev, building £.350, stock £3OO, fnrnituie £IOO in the United ; Taylor tinsmith, building LIOO in the Royal, stock uninsured ; Sutton livery stables LIOO on plant LSO on-furniture iu the Royal; Mrs Muis, uninsured; Miss Redmond, not ascertained; Young, Ll5O on instruments, in the Alliance ; Coyle, carpenter, L3O on the building in the New Zealand; McMahon, boot maker, LSO on the building in the Royal; Hamilton Hotel, stock and furniture L 650 in the Norwich Union ; the hotel and cottage buildings are insured, but the amount is not yet known; AlcXntyre, tobacconist, is uninsured. The total loss is.estimated at L 12,000.
