(To the Editor.)
Sir,— ln the last edition of your paper there appeared a letter asking! fer information re the ‘Knock Beit,’and signed * Fair Play. In it the writer states that Sergeant Salmon is in no way entitled to the Belt. As a Volunteer I should like to say that I was always under the impression that any one winning the Belt twice in succession or three times at intervals would be awarded a gold medal, and I think that these conditions have been proved to be correct, insomuch that Mr Knock has, through Mr Cadman, presented Sergeant Salmon with the Medal as promised, he having won the Belt, three times. As regards the person who has signed himself ‘Fair Play’ I have no hesitation in saying that there is. a good deal of jealousy and dog in the manger spirit about his letter. Apologising for intruding on your valuable am., etc., . • A Volunteer. Te Aroha, May 31st, 1898. ,
