Northern Steamship Company
The record of the yeai’s operations of this successfully-conducted and enterprising company, which was placed before the meeting of shareholders last week, is one upon which the shareholders are to’ be congratulated It is a record of steady progress, and augurs well for the future ’of the company. From small beginnings, the company =* has steadily advanced, until it now Btands a fine fleet of 28 steamers, while its financial position is eminently satisfactory, as indicated by its . sustained earning power. 'lhe company’s policy was tersely stated by'the chairman as one “ of low fares, low freights, ample accommodation to all ports, full communication, with the various new settlements "which are being formed, and civility and attention on the part of our employees.” That this is the right policy to pursue is evidenced by the position which the company now occupies. The indications which the chairman gave of the future operations of the company on land and sea show that the directors are fully alive to the - growing requirements of* its business, and- they realise the importance of . keeping pace with the times.
