Mr. Gladstone's Death.
.Lord Salisbury,- speaking in the of Lords, on Friday night, said the secret of Mr Gladstone’s extraordinary influence’ lay in, the Relief that all his efforts vvefe inspired by a high moral ideal and the purest asp:rations. Ha was an example of a great Christian,. and . was. the . most distinguished politician of the century. Lord Rosebery, who was greatly delivered a magnificent panegyric,. Sir W. V. Harcourt said the dead statesman always employed his divine gifts for high and” noble ends. He left to the race an undying memory, a precious inheritance, and enduring . example. r r - Mr Gladstone will be interred in the Statesmen’s Corner in Westminister Abbey Space will be reserved for Mrs Gladstone beside her husband, the precedent set up in Lord Palmerston’s case being followed. The funeral takes place on June 6., Condolences have poured in by thousands from all parts of the world, from every kind of society and institution, of all shades of political and religious opinion.
