Assessment Court

The Assessment Court sat in Te Aroha -yesterday. - At the outset Mr Gilchrist, Clerk Piako County, raised the question of advertising of the Court* which, he contended, was very inadequate. Ths only advertisement which; had appeared was in ‘ The Waikato Times J in March last, and as only about twelyejcopieß circulated iu Te Aroha, lie submitted, that that was not sufficient, and not ', in keeping with the Valuer-General’s notification by circular to objectors that the date of Court sitting would be advertised in ‘ the local papers.* There were two itf Te Aroha, yet neither of ; them ephtaihed any notice, nor-could the Clerk of the Court give the public any infornaatioh Mr Bush, in reply, statist thathe could do nothing in the matter, as the advertising was out of his province. Ihe . business of the ‘Court was then proceeded with. Ihe . names of ‘about 40 objectors were called, but as none of them appeared, the valuations were sustained. Mrs Maria Hunt (per Mr Burnett), Mrs Lipsey (per Geo. Lipsey), and G. W. Buruett, appeared on behalf of their objections, but the Court uphold the valuers figures. Several objections were adjusted by mutual arrangemem before *ho sitting of the Court.
