The following letter appeared in the ;' " last issue of the Observer Sir, —ln your last week’s issue, you drew a comparison as between the financial position of the late Sir Harry Atkins to and his Ministers and myself and colleagues, and you allege I am worth some forty or fifty thousand pounds. Your statement is absolutely Incorrect, and the inference you wished ,io create,. , namely* that owing to my official position I had amassed wealth is an insult undeserved by me at your hands. The facts are : Stripped of my present positions, I should hot he called upon to pay either Income or Tax. Further to as well off as I was tho clay, I took . office. So much spoils of office.
