President McKinley is yielding to' the pressure brought to bear by the ‘Jingoes,’ who decided .that the regular troops should proceed to Cuba imr~ y mediately to land a force of five thousand American troops on the island to co-operate with General Gomez, leader of the Cuban ihsurgants. (This has been resolved upon notwithstanding the' opinions expressed by General Miles that it would be dangerous to , attempt occupation of the Island with less than fifty thousand troops, and his suggestion that he should organise and drill the volunteer force before attempting invasion.

BRITISH CAPTAIN ARRESTED : IN HAVANA. CHARGED WITH BEING A SPY SENTENCED TO DEATH. DARES THE SPANIARDS TO < * SHOOT HIM. Washington, April 26. Sensational accounts have been received from Havana of the arrest in, that city of Captain Milburn, of the British ship Myrtle Dean. Captain Milburn was charged by the Spanish authorities with being an American spy, and was sentenced to death, but so far the sentence has not been carried out. Captain Milburn dared the Spaniards to shoot hiip, as they proposed, declaring that if they did so the city of Havana would be destroyed. The British Consul at supported Captain Milburn, and as .the result of his intervention Captain Milburn was released from court today. /
