America Resolves on War .
DECISION OF THE SENATE.. RECOGEITION OF THE CUBAN REPUBLIC. Washington, April 16. The fateful decision of the American Senate has at last been takem ■= After a prolonged Sitting, it has adopted a resolution declaring for the independence of Cuba, recognising the Cuban Republic, although no republic exists, requiring Spain to evacuate the island, and directing the President to use force. This is equivalent to a declaration of war, and should the resolution be adopted by the President, which is almost certain, for to veto it would be to cause an explosion in the States, the Spanish Minister at Washington will demand his credentials, and at once leave America Spain is determined to brook no intervention in Cuba, and, yielding to the national sentiment, the Queen-Regent has now abandoned her opposition |to the war policy. The American Consulate at Barcelona has been stoned, and feeling in Spain evidently runs high. In America, naval and military preparations are the order of the day. The French, Austrian, and Italian newspapers are hostile to America. Further details of the revolt in the Philippines show that it is of a widespread and desperate character.
