A Real Fighting Editor.
The fiery M. Paul de Cassagnac, the duelling journalist of Prance, completed his fifty-fourth year on December 2nd. It is stated that no living Frenchman has fought so many duels as the bellicose Imperialist editor of the Paris L’Autarite. On entering journalism Paul’s first idea was to gain notoriety, so he wrote violent personal attacks on leading Frenchmen, with the result that he appeared on the sward almost every other day. Cassag nac is a great friend of the Empress Eugenie. In 1&68, during the wane of the Empire, he publicly declared himself the champion of the Empress, and ready to resent any offence done against her. The Empire’s enemies were not a few, and the journalietehampioiTs sword and pistol were for some time kept fully employed In almost every instance he has been tho aggressor, and among his opponents have been Roohefort and L ickroy, the statesmen, besides numberless journalists. Singularly enough, for he has been in some fierce duels, he has escaped with little hurt, and has never himself killed an opponent. His fiery temper is undoubtedly derived from his mother, who was a Creole of the West Indies,
