Young Men's Society.
A meeting of those interested in the formation of the proposed Literary and Recreation Society was held at Mr McFarland’s on Saturday evening last. There was a fair attendance, and Mr McFarland was voted to the chair. After the consideration of the need of some place where young men could meet and pass profitable evenings, it was decided that such a society be formed, its object being to have a gymnasium, debates, lectures, etc., in connection therewith.
It was agreed that the entrance fee be 2s 6d, and that members be proposed and ballotted all over 15 years of age could become members. If possible, meetings were to be held on three evenings in the week, from 8 to 10 o’clock. A committee was formed consisting of Messrs Watson, Skipwith, Stack, Egar, Newton, Dr Smith, and the Chairman, whose duty was to enrol members, and to make certain preliminary arrangements.
A further meeting of all those who are wishful to become members, and of those who are willing to help iu this movement will beheld on Wednesday evening next at Dr Smith’s surgery, Whitaker street, at 8 o’clock.
