Mrs Joughin hasten suffering' from consumption • for Several years, bjjt. until within the last few months she was able'tp be abdul; apparently in-good health. By her many Jsterlihg qualities she won many friends, who regret her death and sympathise with Mr Joughin in his sad bereavement. ■ A movement is on foot in tho Oninemuri district to secure the establishment of. a Hospital in that important County. With this object in view a {powerful committee has been formed to work up a concert and dance to be held at Paeroa on the 17th inst., the revenue of which will form the muclus of a fund in aid ofthe Hospital. Mr R. G. Cok, the popular hat and cap manufacturer of Karangahape Road, Auckland, has an advertisement in this issue. The announcement that Professer Peart pf Fitzgerald’s Circus, would malce a sensational dive from the mail steamer Alameda 1 into the harbour "on Saturday afternoon! attracted a lp.rge 'crowd fof sightseers-' Shortly before two o’clock the Professor made his appearance, greeted with Promptlymaking ffiia Way up the foremast of the'mail steamer, he worked his_ : ay out to the endbf jthe top--gaßanfc yarand made the diye splendidly ifrilring the water’head first, and was opjy ; 'a : few seconds in coming lip again; Ailine? was thrown to him from the steamer, and in a few minutes he was taken on board a boat, and landed at the wharf, where •ho received quite an ovation. The whole' proceedings showed that the Professor is a pastmaster in the jart of diving, the ex hibitioh being, perfect in every way. The height is estimated at about 120 feet. It m probable that another exhibition will be given by the Professor from the masthead of one of the largo sailing vessels in the harbour one afternoon this week.
