MacDonuell from Mr Hornibrooke “ Treated 311 tons for 579 ozs melted gold. Low, level making good progress.” Last month’s return was 335 tons for 5820 z, and the month previous 372 tons for 9460 z. EXCELSIOR (KARASTGAKAKE). The manager reports :—The drive is now ih a distance of over 100 feet. I anticipate it will be necessary to extend the drive another 50 feet before cross-cutting, except I should meet the reef sooner. .The Frances holding has been,surveyed, and is found to contain 24J acres. The Excelsioi* and Frances licensed holdings will contain an area of 40 .acres, which I would suggest should be amalgamated. Several stringers have been met' with in the drive from 4 to 6 inches in width, with a westerly dip, and all these have been gold-bearing. There, a considerable influx of water in the drive.

CROWN MINE. „ . The shaft in the Crown Mine being put down under the Waitawheta rver is still carrying visible gold, and is now down about 30 feet. REEFTON RETURNS. . Gbeymouth, Monday. The Reefton roturns for the week were as follow*: —Big River, 3340 z amalgam fron 100 tons ; Progress, 92 oz amalgam from 150 tons; Keep it Dark, lS7oz amalgam from 150 tons ; Wealth of Nations, 1360 z amalgam from 179 tons : Buller Dredge, 38oz gold for 168 hours.
