FIRE AT HASTINGS. Napier, Wednesday. Shortly after 10 o’clock last night another fire broke out at Hastings, in the premises occupied by Casey, bootmaker, and Duggan, tailor, on either side of a large empty building which had been used for some time as a restaurant. The flames soon got a firm hold of the block, which was old and dilapitated, and, assisted by a strong wind, quickly reduced it to ashes. The main building was the property of Mr Joyce, of Gisborne. The origin of the fire is a mystery. There is a growing feeling of uneasiness amongst the townspeople that an incendiary is abroad. SLY-GROG SELLING IN THE CLUTHA DISTRICT. Dunedin, Wednesday. At the hearing of the charges of slygrog selling in the Clutha District, before Mr Hawkins, S.M , at Tapanui; E. Dunnett, of ICelso was fined £SO, but this was afterwards reduced to £35 Mrs Marshall, of Tapgnui, was fined £ls and liquor to the value of £7 confiscated. Augustus Munyard was fined £ls ; Sarah Officer, £ls; T. J. Collins £35 (second olfence) ; and Patrick McCarm (second offence) £SO The fines aggregated £165. The liquor seized was in each case confiscated. •'
