Odds and Ends.

We glean the following tit Ibits of information from the N.Z. Year Book just to hand. New Zealand has produced .£50,188,828 worth of gold ih 38 years. . In 42 years Auckland Province has exported 169,378 tons of kauri gum. 'There are. no less than 188 -Newspapers published in N.Z. There were 417 marriages in the colony last year and 18,528 births during the same period, 704 of which were illegitimate children or 33 out of every 1000. ,

The total value of wool exported from the colony last year was ,£4,827,016, or nearly 1,000,000 in excess of the previous year.

. The Foreign Meat Trade also shows an increase, being .£1,194,545 total value. New Zealand exported 3038 J tons of butter in 1895,8 valued at ,£254,280, and 2785 tons cheese, worth £115,203. The total exports were valued at £9,085.148, while the imports were only £8,788,020, being a decided gain to- the colony of £2 297,128. r ,1

The public debt of the colony on 31st March, 1895, was £40,386,964, bein'* an increase of- £760,549 on the amount at the close of the proceeding year. The gross indebtedness per head of ETropeaa population at present stan’s at £SB 11s 61 each.
