OFFENCES AT PAEROA.
Monday A number of petty thefts in the district have, taken place lately, but nothing, of any moment occurred until last night, When the premises of Mr E. Cooke, ’tobacconist and hairdresser, were burglarised, and the'sum of L 7 abstracted. Mr Cooke, it appears, locked .up bis. place safely on Saturday night, after fastening all the windows and upon returning th>s morning he discovered that one of the windows inside of the building, had been broken and opened, 3 ' .while th’e cash box, which had been left on the desk on the shop counter, had been taken into the hairdressing saloon, and smashed- open, the theives taking(fpur Til notes, three half sovereigns,rand thirty shillings in silver* -The matter.ha'* been reported to Jpopstable M<iobupchie, who -is now instituing’ inqhires Tegard'Ug the matter, but so far there, is no cl.uo as to who are the delinquents. - ;
