THE AMENDED TARIFF.

- Wellington, Monday. In the House to -night the amendments to the Customs.an 1 Excise Act, 1895, were brought down by Governor’s message. The amendments are in the schedules of the Bill,, aad are as y follow In schedule A, class 1 (food and articles for human consumption), the item, ‘Vinegar, table, not exceeding 5 per cent of acidity, 6d per gallon duty,’ is altered to read, ‘ not exceeding 6-5 per cent of acidity/ In class 12 (manufactures of metals), * gas-meters’ are added to the ten per cent ad valorem list along with gasometors and apparatus for producing gas. At the end of the same class the following new item is added : ‘ Steam engines and parts thereof, including boiler or boilers therefor, imported specially for mining and dairying purposes, £5 per cent ad valorum (This duty to come iuto force'ou the 27ch September, 1895) jn. schedule B, containing the fre.e list, class 5 (drugs, etc.), the item ‘ concentrated extracts or essences in liquid form’ is amended by striking out ‘or essences in liquid form.’ In class 12 (metals), the words ‘ for dairying purposes ’ are inserted after ‘ separators and coolers.’ In the same class the 'following new item is added: ‘ machinery for gold saving purposes and processes/ (This exemption to take effect on and after 27th SepLemb ry 1895 ) Mr Seddon said he proposed that the House should take these amen Imnm s into consideration next sitting day. v
