MINING.

AROHA SYNDICATE, WAIORONGO-' 3 ' * MAI. The Aroha Syndicate, which, have secured the rights of the main lode at Waiorongomai, are still pushing on the various works in hand with all possible speed. Already some twenty men are employed on the ground, but as the drivbs are small only two men can work in the face,; consequently the three shifts are kept going so that no time lost in testing" the value of the property at the different points being worked at present, * r THE BUCK REEF The large outcrop of the lode commonly known as the Buck reef, has been driven into a distance of one hundred and thirty-five feet, and has been proved to contain almost solid quarlz the whole distance. In places it is less solid, being broken up and mixed with sandstone. Assays have been made as the work has progressed, and now a trial crushing of about 2£ tons has been obtained for the purpose of more fully testing the reef right through. It is estimated that they have fully thirty feet to drive before cutting through the lode, which in that particular place will be quite 160 feet through. The track leading up to this working has been put in good repair by the County Council, so that there will be no difficulty in getting the quartz .to the mill if worth crushing. . . ■ ‘ THE PREMIER A number of men are employed in this claim putting in t.vo levels, one on the foot wall < f the reef at the tramway level, and'one 50ft above, aid known as the Uj pe? Level; The upper level is on the hanging wall, and has been driven a distance of 68 feet, while the lower level is. in about 50 feet. NEW FIND Here again work is being vigorously pushed on, the old drive whichl is in a distance of 650 ft., has been cleared out and put in thorough repair, and men are now engaged putting in a crosscut in a northerly direction. This has been driven about 30 feet through hard'solid quartz. Th e manager, Mr Shepherd, has decided to. alter the course, of the drive and incline a point westward, and drive along tbe wall of the reef in order to make greater headway. p, Altogether there is a much healthier tone in mining matters at Waiorqngomai, in cousequeuce of the various works in hand.. NEW DISCOVERY ■ ' GOLD AT THE WAIEAKAU

For some tintyprospectors have boon fossicking about the range towards Katikati, and at last they are likely to be rewarded. A large reef from 15ft to 20ft wide has been unearthed by Mr Emmett and party, v who have' secured a Special Claim of 100 acres, A parcel of quartz from ihis reef has been shown us an l is very likely stone and no doubt it will assay well." A small parcel has been sent away for assal and the return is anxiously waited for. Already two or .three claims have been pegged but and others are in preparation.

Mr Smart!on, on behalf of No. 2- Syndicate, reported that they had applied for an additional 70 acres, and they were willing to amalgamate with No. 1 on condition that they received one-third the price to be obtained for the joint properties. The offer to remain open till the ground was granted The opinion was freely expressed in the meeting that the offer was a fair and reasonable one, and in the event of the plans being satisfactory there is every likelihood of the amalgamation being accomplished.
