The Herald, discussing the fall in mining stocks' in London, says that since the end of 1894 companies have been registered in London for conducing operations in Western Australia with a capital totalling 25 millions. Even if only one-fifth of this amount has been subscribed, it is out of all proportion to the reasonable expectafion of payable returns. Since the discovery of gold in the colony the total output has only been valued at £2,139,000,; so that such an immense expenditure of capital is quite unjustified. ’ '
THE FATAL STABBING CASE. . Sydney, October 12. The youth McLean, who stabbed Cfoulson, a steward on a steamer, was found guilty of manslaughter. NEW SOUTH WALES LOAN. London, October 11. The loan Averaged £96 8s 3d. The Standard considers it a very qualified success, much of the stock not being strongly held. The Financial Times is glad the success of the loan is within reasonable bounds, as the heads of the other colonies will not be turned Sydney, October 12. The Herald says the reduction in the average that was expected for the loans is due to the comments of the Times and the mining collapse.
