THE LIQUOR BILL.
The Liquor Bill is now in a fair way to come back to the Lower House in
shape which will not be recognisable. The fact is received in various ways. The extreme prohibitionists are mad, with an inclination to rejoice that they have a chance after all to get better terms in the near future. Some of them are indeed glad that Othello’s occupation is not gone, the liquor party is in the seventh heaven of delight, the moderates, among whom are many prohibitionists, for this occasion are sorry at the turn of affairs, because they think the liquor question would have been cut out of politics for a decade at least if the Bill had not been mutilated by the Lords. On all points, nearly all are agreed, that the Bill is a dead one this session.
