MORRINSVILLE CRICKET CLUB.
The sixth annual meeting of the Morrinsviile Cricket Club was held in the Nottingham Castle Hotel on Saturday evening last, but owing to the heavy rain during the eveniugthe attendance was very small. Mr J". F. Marshall being voted to the chair, ealled upon the secretary for his report of the past seasou’s business, which read as folio ws :—Only four matches were played during the season resulting in one win against Te Aroha, and three times defeated, twice by the Thames Hovers rind once by Huffily, . The total receipts for the year were £24 12s ; expenditure, £23 14s Id, leaving a credit balance of 17s lid. The past season was a very expensive one owing to the laping: down of a cocoanut matting and asphalt pitch. The batting averages for the season have been compiled, and I am pleased to say E. Clarke has the best average with 12 8 . to liis credit, and as he was well up in the bowling the Committee have justly considered him entitled to Mr Tuvnbull’s presentation bat as being the best all-round cricketer for. the season. Mr Alex. Aitken, of Koreone, was next on the list with an average of 11.4, but as Mr Or. Vincent had an average of 11/ to his credit and had played in three more matches our Committee considered Mr Vincent has earned the “Club’s bat,” given for the best aver--age for the season. The Club’s presentation Cap and Sash to the bowlers with the best analysis, was won by Mr A- J. Smith with an average of 3*l, Mr Clarke being next with 4-6. The secretaries.report and accounts being passed, .a hearty vote of thanks was then, recorded to the ladies for their many kindnesses in providing for the visitors, and the interest they have always taken in our games, also to our Captian, Mr W. Main; for the kind and gentlemany way he piloted our teams, through the matches of tho past season. A vote of thanks was also' given to the Secretary, for the manner in which he had conducted tho affairs of the club. .
v W. 8. Allen Esq. was again elected Patron of our Club, Mr Lewis Warren, President? and "the following gentlemen Vice-Presidents, Mr J. Me Caw, Alex. Aitken, F. J. Marshall, and F. McSherry. ’ - Working ee, E. Clarke, A.. Oit, F. Hartuoady, F. J. Marshall, and W. Neals, also the Captain and Vice-Captain. Mr W. Aitken . was proposed at Captain and Mr if.' W. Schofield as Vice-Captain „■ - ; / It was decided , that the Clubs subscribtion for the ensuing season he the* same as previous seasons, ss. With a vote of. thanks to the Chairman the meeting then adjourned.. ■- It is feared that owing to the reductions made by the B.N.Z. Estates Co., and the removal of a number of our players; that our team for the coming season yvill be very poor. In fact, unless those left in .the distinctigive the: Club . more assistance' than formerly, I am afraid we will be unable to raise a team." ’
