HEARTLESS MURDER OF AN INFANT DROWNED FOR CRYING FOE ITS • ;t ,MOTHER Melbourne, August 14. The mother of the child found in a lagoon when arrested denied causing its death/ Mrs Young is a widow. Since she lost her husband she has lived a loose life. Three times she abandoned the child. On one occasion a woman was willing to be made its adoptive' mother, and appealed to the Court, brit failing to get any remedy, left it with the magistrate and cleared out. The child was then. handed to the police. _ Mrs Williams has confessed that she took tho child to the lagoon and tied a stone to its waist while the infant was laughing at the water, • and then shoved it in. The reason given is that the people where she lived were, always grumbling about the poor little mortal crying for its mother. AN IMPORTANT CASE ’ Sydney, August 14. A shocking tragedy has occurred at Tunor, near Maryborough. A miner named Bowring took a young woman named Randall, to whom he was engaged to be married in October, for a drive. He alighted at arotired place, shot her through the head with a revolver, and then blew his own brains out, Botlvare dead. Bowring had been speculating and betting heavily lately, and had lost all his savings.
