LYTTELTON HARBOUR FROZEN.
CinusrcHUßCß, Thursday* The snow which fell yesterday ie thawing very slowly/ The principa thoroughfares and crossings were cleared by the unemployed. _ The running of trains is very much interfered with. There was a "very severe frost last night. The Lyttelton Harbour -was frozen right across,* an"occurrence unprecedented in the history of the port. Near Gladstone Pier the ice was half an inch in thickness. The weather to night was cold and threatening.
A SKELETON FOUND AT KAWERUA.
AuckLANi), Last Night. Yesterday Inspector Hickson received a telegram from Mr W/ N. Javvie, of Omapere, informinghim that a gumdigger had discovered the skeleton of a man in a good state of preservation, atdhe foot of a'tree, about one mile from Kawerua. There is a round hole in the skull, like that which would be made by a bullet. Constable McGill, of flaweno, left yesterday to make inquiries' as to whether anyone was missing in the district. Kawerua is on the West Coast, about half-way beOweeuKaipara Heads and Hokianga Heads. * .. • *.- "
