MANUFACTURE OF TOBACCO.

Melbourne, July 10.. In a report on tobacco culture in the United States, Mr Sinclair makes a recommendation that the Government, of Victoria, shpuld,.as in France aii<l Italy, haveabsolute control of the rpaufacture of . tobacco. The manufacture of tobacco in those countries is an absolute monopoly, controlled wholly by the Government, who, at certain seasons, invite contracts for the supply of raw material.

SERIOUS LOSS OF LIFE Ottawa, July 9. The trains conveying Catholic pilgrims came into collision near Quebec. Thirteen persons wore killed and 29 injured. Ottawa, July 10. It is believed that 25 were killed, and 40 injured in the railway collision.
