Te Aroha, 29th March, 1895.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —ln your leaderette of last Wednesday’s issue you stated that Mr Gadman told your representative that Thompson’s Track would only ’be Bft. wide, and that you published this information. Unfortunately most of the residents in this district seem to have overlooked this information, as no one in Te Aroha with whom I have spoken on the subject with the exception of Messrs Mills and Gavin knew any thing of the eight foot idea. I. will instance one as an example. If .any one should know both as a coach proprietor as well as a prominent supporter of Mr Cadman it grould be Mr E. Gallagher, and yet I found him ignorof the fact as to the present proceedings. I have found a general consensus qf opinion, that it is a waste of money, and from none more so than from the men engaged on the work. I believe to give him his due, that Mr Cadman is a man of common sense, and that if representations were made. to him the present method of carrying out the work would be altered, and I earnestly urge the residents of the district to take steps in the matter.—l am, etc., ' 7 . ; ; >; «W. H. Herries. [We regret that Mr Herries.overlooked our report of an interview- with the Hon. Cadman, which was published during that gentleman’s recent visit. We cull the following from the report:—“.Mr Cadman said that he purposes to spend the vote of £ISOO in opening.up communication between Shaftesbury and Katikati by repair ing and continuing the present formation and widening as much as the money will do.”— Ed.
