OHINEMURI.

(By our own Correspondent.) Paeroa, Thursday. The Warden’s Court last Tuesday had a long sitting. There were over 80 applications of various kinds heard, most of which were adjourned for want of pi ans. One case for forfeiture of the Waitekauri L H., occupied all the afternoon, and was not concluded until 7 p.m.,'when judgment was reserved till after the Easter holidays. In this case Mr Theo Cooper, from Auckland, appeared for the applicant (Mr E. Eersey Cooper), while IVI r Miller, of Thames, appeared for the defendants, the Komata'G.M. Co., owners of the L.H. ~

There were no fewer than 7 lawyers in Court,- all seated round the table, quite an array of legal talent,' We had 4 now residents in. Paeroa, the latest arrival being a Mr Mueller, a son of the Commissioner of Crown' Lands.

The bridge work is getting on well. The whole of the piles for the first pier on this side of the river, 13 I believe in number, have been driven in. The contractors have been favoured with grand weather for their operations. I understand that Mr Ws.-S. Montgomery, of the Owharoa Hotel, is contemplating buying out Mr Coote, and running his. hotel, the Commercial, in conjunction with the Owharoa one.' If he does get the Commercial, I hardly believe he will run the two, as it will require all his energies to make one pay.

Mr OassreJl’sHall is still in statu quo, and likely to remain so, judging from all appearances, until next., summer. It is a great pity, that Paeroa is without a Hall, and shows great apathy on the part of some one or another. There is a talk of getting up a kind of a Company to build a Hall in the Ohinemuri end of the town, and certainly that is the proper place for a Hall. . We have had a grand lecturer here in our midst, Mr C. E. Jones, of Victoria, but unfortunately the Paeroa people do not appreciate lectures, having no doubt, been disappointed in previous lectures. Mr Jones, however, is a notable exception, being . a very fluent speaker, fine address and delivery, with a wonderful power of placing himself at once e% rajfort with his audience He is full of humor and anecdote I hear he is going up to pay Te Aroha a visit next week, and I would strongly advise every one ol your readers to be sure and hear him, for if they miss, the opportunity, they will regret it. £
