GREAT SCULLING MATCH. CANADA Y. NEW SOUTH WALES. VICTORY FOR AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Jane 30. The match between W. O’Connor (of Canada) and J. Stansbury (of New South Wales), for USOO aside, took place to-day over the Parramatta coarse. The weather was fine, and there was a very largo concourse of people. The betting was 3 to 1 against O’Connor. A good start was effected, Stafnsbury rowing 38 and O’Connor 39 strokes to the minute. O’Connor took the lead after the first niioute, and obtained the command of half a length ; Stansbury, however, was merely playing a waiting game. O’Connor half way across Blaxlands was leading by a length and a half. At this stage Stansbury came along amid great cheering, overtook his opponent and passed the mile post two lengths in front; whilst O’Connor appeared distressed. Crossing over to Putney, Stansbury increased the distance between them to four lengths. The Canadian became worse, and Stansbury passed Putney five lengths ahead. At Gladesville he was ten lengths ahead. At One Man Wharf Stansbury eased up, and eventually won by eight lengths as he liked. Time, 22m. 595.
