Sheep in the Waikato have increased by fifty thousand during the last twelve months. THE PRIMAGE DUTY. AUCKLAND PROTESTS. The Chamber of Commerce to-day passed lesolutions protesting against the continuation of the Primage Duty ; it having served the purpose for which it was introduced. LATEST PARLIAMENTARY. WANT OF CONFIDENCE MOTION MOVED BY MR BALLANOE. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House this afternoon Mr J. Bailanoe gave notice of his iutentiun to move, on going into Supply, that : (I) In the opinion of this House the continuance of Primage Duty is unnecessary, and a distinct breach of the understanding arrived at when it was first imposed ; (2) Thatfuither retrenchment is imperatively demanded and can be effected without impairing the efficiency of the publie service ; (3) That the retention of the Property Tax in its present form, and the land policy pursued by the Government alike impede the progress of the colony. Mr Mitchelson, on behalf of the Government, accepted (his as a “ want of confidence ” motion. SULLIVAN, THE SCULLER, PROCEEDS TO SYDNEY. Tom Sullivan, the amateur sculler, who has left for Sydney, via Aucklaud, has been presented with a purse of sovereigns, DEATH FROM A FALL. James Carson, an old pensioner, has died from the effects of a fall. THE CUSTOMS REVENUE. The Customs revenue collected in the Colony in June was L 102,760, aa compared with L 127,165 for the previous month, and 98,647 for June 1889. The total Customs revenue for last quarter is L 356,298. CORPORAL PUNISHMENT y £505 CLAIMED BY A SCHOLAR. In the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice, William Hansen, a boy of 14, has sued Mr Plunket Cole, late master of Te Aro school, for L 505 damages, for breaking his thumb with a ©anp in March lapt year.
