The Waaorongomai Bridge.
CAPTAIN BAYLDON TO REPORT.
Captain Bayldon, Thames Harbour Master, has been authorised by the Marine Department to proceed to Waiorongomai, and inspect and enquire respecting the recently erected bridge over the Waihou river there. On account of representations having been made that the bridge impedes navigation, the Marine Department wish to obtain an independent opinion on the matter. Captain Bqyhlpn will probably leave Thames on Wednesday next for Waiorongomai, to conduct the enquiry, and it behoves all interested in the matter to be prepaved to give evidence. Foi our part we do not believe the bridge can be looked upon qs an obstruction jn any way to navigation, whilst it lias undoubtedly proved a gteat benefit and convenience tq travellers as well as to the settlers residing, jq the vicinity. We have heard of nq complaint from aqy one with the exception of Mr Gibbons, of the Junction Mills, Paeroa, that the bridge in question was a hinderance to the river navigation ; and we anticipate that after a careful and impartial inspection, and enquiry, on the part of Captain Rayldon into the matter, his report to G •vernmem. will be to that effect. We repeat, however, that all who are competent to give evidence as to whether the bridge has, or has not, in any way interfered with the navigation of the river, should make it their special business to meet Captain Bayldon on the occasion of his visit of inspection, and lay their evidence before him. It will be a great pity if through any neglect on the part of local resioents to do this, the bridge were interfered with,
