Meeting re Creamery.
A public meeting of settlers and others interested in the establishmant of a ‘creamery’ in the Waihou district wafl held in the Palace Hotel, Te Aroha, ou last Saturday evening. Mr R. Parr, as convener of the meeting, occupied the chair ; amongst the others present were Messrs J, H. Rowe, T. Stanley, J. Jackson, O. McCabe, J. McSweeuey, R. Mackie, F. McDevitt, Brinkley, Hawkins, Burke, etc.
The Chairman opened the proceedings by briefly referring to the steps that had already been taken, and the meetings that had been held at Waiiiou, with a view to the establishment of a creamery. The Chairgmn also read a letter he had received from Air Keynolds (proprietor of various creameries already estab lished in Waikato ana elsewhere), in which he states that he must have a guarantee of at least three hundred cows to start with, before be would undeitake to establish a creamery af Waihou. The Chairman further stated the present meeting was convened at Ye Aroha to suit the convenience of Te 4 r Qha residents and to hear what measure of suppprt they were prepared to give the movement. It was absolutely necessary some decisive steps be taken promptly, if a creamery was to be established. In reply to Mr Mackie the Chairman stated if was thought by (he Committee that the best position for the creamery site, to suit the majority of suppliers, would be on the western side of the Waihou river just beyond the first railway crossing, at the junction of the Cemetery and Mprriusville roads. General discussion ensued and 9 considerable number pf cows were promised by some of those present, in addition to the number already guaranteed.
On the motjon of Mr T. Stanley, seconded by Mr J. H. Rowe, it was resolved! unanimously, jThat a creamery, as proposed, be established.
It was further resolved that the existing Committee be empowered to arrange with Mr J. McNicol for the purchase of an acre of land, in the locality already indicated ; and failing to obtain same, to make the best arrangements they could to obtain a site as near thereto as possible Mr J. H Rowe’s name was added to the Committee.
Mr O. McCabe stated that Mr Reynolds was about to leave fpr the Old Country, with a view to securing a better market and price for bis butter, ana thought should try and arrange with him bofqre be went away. Air Stanley moved that the Committee be authorised to write to Air Reynolds, asking him to come to Te Aroha as sppp aa possible, with a view to the erection of a creamery at an early date.
Seconded by Air AlcSwpeney and carried.
Resolved that a meeting of ; the Committee be held in the Palace Hotel, Te Aroha, on next Friday evening, eomsaencing at eight o’clock. This was all the businosjs.
