BAND OF HOPE.
A meeting of the Te Arolia Band of Hope was held in the Public Hall on Monday evening last ; JRev F. G. Evans presiding.. There was an excellent attendance, the building being .well tilled in every part. The meeting opened
with singing, after which Rev J. Law I engaged in prayer, and was followed by a few practical remarks from the Chair-; man, on the importance of hearty sup port being accorded to all engaged in so grand a work, the great advantage of getting hold of the young and enlisting them in the ranks of total abstainers. The following programme was then gqne through : Recitation, Shingle, Master 11. Law ; trio, The Shoemaker, Misses K. .Harris, L. Hyde, and" A- } dialogue, Ten Little Temperance Boys, Masters J. Allen, N. Law, H. Law, . ,A. Biggs, H. Hirst, W. Cocks, H. Cocks, J. Lavery, B. Harris, J. M. A. |l° tfc i reaili|ji, Rev J. Law ; song, Qld England, Mr J. McCall ; reading, Paddy Flynn’s Experiences at a Dinner Party, Mr J. Ilott ; recitation, Crumbs of Oquifort fpr the Single ; Mr§ Ilott j re•citatjpn, No, Master W, Maingay ; (Violin solo, piue Bella of Septland, Miss S. Stanley ; recitation, Becahnnd, Miss L. Strange ; recitation, God Is Love,'Miss M. Erasmus, reading, Miller J. Erasmus. The pro gramme prqvfid an exsellent one, and all appeared well pleased with the evening’s entertainment, whilst several new members were enrolled at the close. Miss G. Maingay presided at the piapo during the evening. At the conclusion of the public meeting, a meeting of thp Committee was held, the following being present : Rev F. G. Evans (Chairman), Rev J. Law ; Mesdames Ilott and Blencowe ; Misses Maingay and C. Nixon ; tylessrs Cochrane, McCall, Simmonds, and Jjott. | Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
1 Mr Simmonds (having tendered his resignation as assistant Secretary, being about to leave the district.), Mr Ilott moved that Mr Simmonds’ resignation be accepted with rogret, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded him for the very valuable assistance lie had rendered the {society during his term of office ; seconded by Rev J. Law and carried. Mr Ilott tliep moved that Mr J. J. Caldenvood be appointed Assistant Secretary, vice Mr Simmonds resigned ; seconded by the Chairman and carried. The next meeting will take place on Monday, July 2dth, ami has been entrusted to a number of 1-dies, who have undertaken entire charge of the whole proceedings; in fact we understand only single young ladies will be invited to take part in the programme. There can be no doubt there will be a bumper house on the occasion, and that the ladies meeting’ will prove a great SUCCeSS.
