CONCERT AT PAEROA.

[From a Correspondent.'] A cohckrt of unusual excellence was given at Paoroa on Friday last, it) aid of the Chtirdi of England Building Fund, by Misses Murray, Hume, and Belcher, and Messrs Campbell, and Hurston, from the Thames ; assisted by the Paeroa choir and otiuar friends, who rendered valuable help. In spite of the unfavourable weather the Hall was well filled by an appreciative audience? even the proverbial rowdy youth being kept comparatively still under the spell of the “concord of sweet sounds." When the expenses are paid, I hear thatsomeeight or nine pounds will be available for the Church funds. MrC. F. Mitchell presided, and the Rev W . Katterns, who was present, conducted the two glees given by the Choir. The following was the programme Piano duet, Misses Vuglar ; glee, 0, Who will o’er the Downs, Choir; song, Jessie’s Dream, Miss McLoughrey ; song, Tell her I love her so, Mr Hurston ; song, Thy Voice, Mrs D. Snodgrass; piano, solo, Miss D. Nicks; song, The Hotter Land, Miss Murray, with violin obligato; violin solo, The that once, Mr E. de B, Campbell ; trio, Down among the lilies, Misses Belcher, Hume, and Murray ; piano duet, Shepherd's evening song, Misses Coote and Paterson ; vocal duet, We come from fairy bowers, Misses Hume and Murray ; violin solo, Auld Robin Gray, Mr E. de B. Campbell; song, Dear little Shamrock, Mrs D. Snodgrass ; song, Anchored, Mr Hurston ; glee, May Day, Choir.* All performed their several parts really well. The .opening duet by Misses Vuglar was well rendered, the glee by Choir and song by Mrs D. Snodgrass also went well. Miss Nicks played with gieat accuracy for such a youthful performer. Mr Harsti n rendered the touching song, Tell her I love her so, with excellent taste. The gem of the evening, however, to my mind was The Better Land, sung by Miss Murray, with violin obligato by Mr Campbell, Miss Belcher accompanying on the piano, The rendering of this piece was perfect, not a hitch in the time or slightest discord being perceivable throughout the varied music of the piece. In response to an imperative encore, Miss Murray gave a Scotch Air, which proved quite a contrast tQ her previous piece, in fact a sudden and complete transition from giavc to gay. Mr Campbell’s playing of the violin solo, The Harp that once Thp).iigli Tara's Hail, proved a thorough treat, Mr Campbell proving himself a most accomplished performer on this (when played by a master hand) grand instrument*, 'J’he pianoforte duet, Shepherds Evening Song, played by Mbaes Coote apd Paterson was much enjoyed, the exqcqtion being excellent. The voices Of Misses Murray and Hume blended nicely in the d«et, We came from Fairy Bowers. M*' d D. Snodgreso rendered the song, Dear kittle Shamrock, with ouch good taste that she was warmly encored. Mr Happen sung, Anchored, in really style, The concert concluded by all joining in ringing the National Anthem, The aQQompapituents were very efficiently ployed, during the evening oy the Misses Befcl\er, Murray, Itobson, nud Mr Harston, At the close of the concert, a hearty vote of thunks was wayed by Mr F. Cock, and seconded hy Mr C, F. Mitchell, fo, oil who had assisted at the entertain” mcnf,, specially to Mr T. L, Murray, and thosc ladies and gentlemen who had come n\l| s,e way from the Thames (o help them, free pf all expense to the Church.
