WAITOA ROAD BOARD.
[From our own Correspondent.') The oruinary monthly meeting of the Waitoa Road Board took place in the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, last Saturday. Present: Messrs W. P. Cheptneli (in the chair), H. Burnett, E. W. Hanmer, J. Horrell, and J, Turnbull,
Correspondence: Te Kawana Road : Amongst the correspondence dealt with was a letter from Mr W. J. McCormick, calling attention to the damage done to the Te Kawana road, by fires, and stating that the road in sereral places is overgrown with ti-tree. The Engineer was instructed to attend to the matter.
Serious Charge : A letter was read from a party, calling attention to the fact that some one the Waihon township, was causing great damage to a road by carting away the whole of its surface.
The matter will be enquired into. Stanley Road : A letter was received from Mr Gr. L. Grant, calling attention to the difficulty of driving sheep along part of the Stanley road, on account of the ti-tree. The matter will receive attentionDefective Pipe : A letter was received from Mr R. B. B, Willis, calling attention to a pipe culvert opposite to Mr Wiseman’s, which requires looking after. The necessary repairs will be effected. A letter was received from Mr W. L. C, Williams, calling attention to a part of the Waiorongomai road, between the Waitoa river and the Waihekau creek, which daring heavy rains gets flooded for a considerable distance in consequence of the outfall being too small to carry off all tiie water. The matter will be attended to. Road Required : A letter was received from eleven ratepayers and settlers of the Lower Waitoa, calling attention to the necessity of opening up a road about 'i 5 chains long, in the suburbs of Te Aroha ’The matter will be attended to. Re Drainage : A letter was received from Messrs M, O’Donoghue, T. Taylor, C. Tbaxter, and N. Mikklesen, re Mr Hanmer making drains so as to let the water into Johnson’s creek drain unless he assists to make said drain large enough to carry off the water he lets into it without flooding their land. A letter was received from Mr Thos. Rowe, on the same subject. ; MrMikkleseu was also in attendance to give any information re the matter. The Board considered it had no power
to in any way interfere with drainage works, except for road purposes. Road Repairs : Mr JTames Gordon, of Kerihoni, interviewed the Board re the necessity of having the MorrinsvilleMaungatapu road repaired. The Board decided to take the matter into consideration.
Tenders : The following tenders were received for the contract on the Tauhae road: Pickett and Son, L2O Is lOd ; das. Shine, Ll 9 10s ; 0; McCabe (accepted), Ll 9. '• “
