Mining News.

KARANGAHAKE. SPLENDID RETURN FROM SILVERTON (VVAIHI) ORE. (From pur own Correspondent.) Cbown : A start baa been made connect the new Sod with tlie reduction works. This will be done by means of a ground tramway of about 20 chains, utilising the old Monastry line (whieh property the Crown Company hare recently purchased). The ore will then be sent on to the stone-breaker floor by means of a hoist similar to that now being used for hoisting the ground ore to the Cassel Company’s works. Mr McGruer informs me that the reef in the face of the drive maintains its great 9ize, and the quality has improved considerably. He also-h iwedmethe resultof about 20 assays from all parts of the reef, which run from L 4 to LIOO per ton, the bullion being worth L 3 17s per ounce; agreat difference from the reefs in the upper portions of the mine, the bullion from which being worth only about 108 per ounce. The work of connecting the mine with the battery is expected to be completed in four weeks time.

At the Battery everything is going on smoothly.. Several small parcels were put through last week. A parcel from Littlejohn’s Tribute (Waihi) was put through worth L 420 per ton, and a small parcel from the Imperial (Karangahake) worth Ll 7 8s per ton. The carters are busy getting the material fur the furnace, hoppers, etc., on to the ground, and the manager hopes to. have everything in working order by the time the mine manager has his connections completed. Kenilworth (Moore’s Tribute) : This party are still on good dirt, but are rather puzzled as to what they are to do with it. The Crown Company are not in a position to treat it without the aid of a furnace, and when the furnace is ready for work they will have plenty of oro from their own mine to keep the plant going night and day. Adeline Amalgamated : Things are looking a little better in this Company’s mine. A block of good payable ore has been met with and is now being beaten out. The two tribute parties are also on payable dirt.

I understand the Warden is about to make another raid on Karangnhake. It is high time he did, as the Crown and the Iranhoe are about the only two mines being properly worked in the district.
