E. K. Cooper, protection for the Jubilee special claim, at Waitekauri.--Mr Miller appeared for the applicant, and stated that protection was desired to enable an effort to get further capital. Granted for four months.
W.S. Styak, protection for the Occidental 2, Una Hill. Granted for four months. Robert McWilliams v. William Otter aud others, a plaint for the non-workiag of the Little Edwin claim, Una Hill, for six mouths.—Mr Purchas, solicitor for complainant, and Mr Miller for defendants.
Robert McWilliams,Arthur Richards, Mining Inspector Wilson, Wm. Morton, Chas. May, John Robinson, and James Hardman gave evidence in the case.
After the case had closed for the defence His Worship said that the men seemed to work while fiJ*ey had funds, but when they were unable to do so they sooald hare com* to him and applied for protection, as no man who was hard up had ever been refused such an appliCAiion. It appeared, however, that last year more than the requisite number of men had been employed, and complainant did not, the Warden thought, come into Court with clean hands, after advising them as he had about tributers and trying to purchase the claim. After some further comments on complainant’s action, His Worship said be would fine defendants one shilling, and allow complainant Ll 18s costs —Thames Star,
