WAHAROA.

(From our own Correspondent.) WiQAOA, Monday. The comparative quietude of our settlement was again broken by the monthly meeting of the Waharoa Band of Hope

on Saturday, 29 th March. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weathci during the afternoon the attendance was good, and great interest was shown in the proceedings by old and young. The meeting commenced by the singing of 66th hymn in Sankey’s edition. The improvement in this department is very marked owing to the pains taken by Mr Bryant at the practice held at stated times.

The programme was a good one and the different pieces drew forth the hearty applause of the whole assembly. The following recitations wen* given :—After the Coin of the Working Man, Miss Lulu Brown ; Wahlensian Co!portenr y Miss Bessie Brown ; If and Perhaps, Miss Emily Brown ; Blessing of a Song, Miss Charlotte Finnerty ; Take up the Collection, Miss Dolly Finnerty. Readings aLo were rendered at intervals by the following :—A Parable, Mr Vosper ; Tim’s first Speech, Mr Bryant. The song entitled, Mother’s Grave, was sung by Mr Cartwright ; The Winning Side, Mr Bryant ; and also Love at Home, by the same gentleman. A piece, the Little Spring, was sung together by Miss Bessie, Emily, and Lulu Brown. Thus ended another successful meeting of the Band of Hope. It is very gratifying to see peace and unanimity prevailing in the settlement, and all joining so heartily in the noble cause of temperance.
